Save Cedar Rapids Schools (SCRS) has been organized to look closely at the effects of closing some of Cedar Rapids' older schools. Our group is made up of practicing professionals experienced in assessing historic structures, analyzing their value and real costs of renovation. Our review shares precedents and insights into the advantages of retaining these meaningful buildings. The Cedar Rapids Community School District has emphasized these older schools' deficiencies and has accepted them as fact without a thorough study on how existing historic buildings can be transformed into the schools of the future our students require to succeed. Save Cedar Rapids Schools reveals these schools' advantages with regards to historical/cultural significance, healthy neighborhoods, educational environment and comparative costs of renovation of versus replacement. An integrated educational experience includes our community's history and culture as well as it's exciting future.
