Jeffrey C. O'Brien Architect and Historic Preservationist - Over the past decade Mr. O'Brien has performed work on many historic buildings in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois. As a visiting lecturer at Iowa State University he shares his experience as an Architect, Developer and Historic Preserationist highlighting the different views each discipline brings to the table and the relationships between architectural ideas, development potential of the property and the intrinsic historic value the building may have for the community. Jeffrey is a native Cedar Rapidian whose mother and grandmother taught in the Cedar Rapids Public Schools since 1925. "There is no better way to provide an education than to preserve portions of the past for future generations. An integrated approach to learning depends on maintaining our heritage while building for the future."

Elizabeth Rosin, Principal and Owner of Rosin Preservation - Elizabeth came into the field of historic preservation through the study of archaeology, earning her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in anthropology and geography.  This interest spurred her to pursue a Master of Science in Historic Preservation at the University of Vermont.  Since graduating in 1990, Elizabeth has held positions in both the public and private sectors that have involved her in historic preservation projects throughout the United States. In addition to the survey and designation of numerous historic resources, she has consulted on over 100 historic tax credit projects representing over $1 billion of National Park Service-approved rehabilitation. National, state and local entities have conferred preservation awards to numerous of these projects.   In 2014 Elizabeth was recognized as Preservationist of the Year by the American Institute of Architects – Kansas City Chapter. We thank Elizabeth for contribution of select school renovation projects in Kansas City.

Joyce Barrett, Executive Director of Heritage Ohio - Joyce has served as Heritage Ohio’s Executive Director since 2007, prior to that she was Director of Preservation.  Joyce began her career in the museum field: working while at Iowa State University at the Brunnier Museum; serving a one year internship at the Smithsonian Institution’s political history department; and finally landing at the Arizona Historical Society after earning her BS in History. Following completion of her MBA at Arizona State University, she served as Associate Executive Director of the Arizona Historical Society. Following the birth of her first child and a move back to Iowa, Joyce was the neighborhood representative to the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission. She also worked for Tallgrass Historians, before taking the position as the first Executive Director of the Iowa Historic Preservation Alliance.  She and her husband Jim and their three (now grown) children moved to Ohio in 2002. We thank Joyce for sharing successful school renovations in Ohio.

Nicole Halvorson, Save CR Heritage Board Member and Restorer - Professionally, Nicole works as a pediatric speech-language pathologist. However, she has always enjoyed all things historical. In her spare time, her involvement with things of this nature includes, but is not limited to: admiring and collecting antiques, touring ancient cities and ruins, working with her husband on restoration projects for their 1901 Folk Victorian home, and recently finding the Save Cedar Rapids Heritage organization and becoming a board member. Nicole believes that preserving history and keeping old homes and buildings active is important because it keeps a city's heritage alive and accessible for current and future generations, encourages citizens to invest in older neighborhoods and keep them vibrant, and, environmentally, is our "greenest" option.
